Students afflicted by mysterious disease

Anxiety has gripped Sintaan Primary School in Marigat district after 11 students were admitted to hospital suffering from an unidentified disease.
The disease characterized by headaches, nausea, convulsions, neck stiffness and foaming at the mouth has seen doctors at Marigat hospital working frantically to carry out tests to identify the mysterious disease.
Initial symptoms however indicate the students could have been infected by the rift valley fever.
The doctors area also working hard to establish the cause of the disease and find ways of containing it.
The students were rushed to hospital at 8.30am Sunday after they collapsed at the school.
Medics at the hospital say they have referred 3 of the students to Baringo District Hospital for further treatment as tests continue.
Rift Valley Fever caused a major epidemic in Kenya in 1997 and 1998 and doctors are wary that it might be making a comeback.
