Six people have died in Koloa ward, Tiaty sub county in the last one week due to a mysterious disease. Medics in the area say, the patients succumb to the disease after two hours of contracting it.

Mysterious disease kills five people in Baringo

An unknown disease has claimed the lives of five people in Tiaty, Baringo County over the past one week.
More than 13 people are currently admitted to the facility with the same infection.
According to Clara Lotum, nurse in charge at AIC Lodengo Health Centre, those affected experience severe bouts of vomiting and diarrhea.
She revealed that they had conducted tests on the patients and ruled out cholera which has similar symptoms. Ms. Lotum however lamented that the facility lacks proper equipment to diagnose the disease.
The nurse noted that victims brought to the centre would succumb to the disease after only two hours of contracting it because of lack of quick medical attention.

Five dead, 70 hospitalized after mysterious disease outbreak in Kerio Valley

Five people have died and 70 others hospitalized following an outbreak of a mysterious disease in Kerio Valley, along the border of Baringo and Elgeyo-Marakwet Counties.


The patients are complaining of abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhoea and are being treated at the AIC Lodengo Kolowa in Tiaty Sub-county.

?We get an average of five and seven patients a day, some are discharged on the same day while we admit those who are serious,? the dispensary nurse-in-charge Clara Lotuw told the Star on Friday.


Lutow attributed the outbreak to poor hygiene associated with unclean drinking water along Kerio River and lack of latrine.

The nurse in-charge, Clara Lotuw, said they were receiving between 10 to 15 patients daily, with most visiting the facility late in the evening.

She confirmed that eight people had died while undergoing treatment at the facility, and there were fears the number could rise.

According to the nurse, the disease kills in less than two hours, but responds to broad-spectrum antibiotics if detected early.
