Kakamega: Residents of Mumbaka village, Simanyiro location in Ikolomani sub-county, are living in fear after an outbreak of an unknown disease that has claimed one life so far.

Eleven others from the same area are in critical condition at Kakamega County General Hospital.
...
According to Jacinta Khatenje, a mother who lost her daughter, Faith Ilanda, to the disease, she complained of chest pains and prolonged diarrhea before passing on.
...
The Mumbaka village residents are now calling on the county government of Kakamega to hasten a probe into the disease and find a way of curbing it. They suspect it might be water-related.

"We have been using river Isikhu as our source of water for a while as the county has not developed any water systems in our area, so we think water is the cause of this disease. We are also appealing to the county hospital that if a patient is in critical condition, let him/her be treated first before asking for money," said Ernest Anyanda, one of the locals.
