Cholera leaves 800 in Mandera hospitalised

Mandera residents have urged the county government to upscale its effort in tackling a cholera outbreak as the number of those hospitalised hit 800.
Health chief officer Mariam Dahir on Monday said 15 people have died. Elder Ibrahim Alio said the situation is worsening.
He said the disease has claimed more lives than the department is saying. Alio said people are being buried daily in Mandera town villages. The Kenya Red Cross has scaled up awareness programmes and treatment of water...

The cholera outbreak that has ravaged Mandera County for the past three months has been contained, M?decins Sans Fronti?res (MSF) International team leader Ahmed Garat has said.
Medics from MFS, a non-governmental organisation and one of the medical partners, have been camping in Mandera to help control the disease that has claimed 19 lives and affected over 1200 others.
By Wednesday, only 27 patients were being treated at a cholera centre managed by MFS...
Three admitted at Igegania after reported Cholera outbreak

Three people from Kaibere village, Gatundu North are nursing their lives in Igegania level four hospital after a reported outbreak of Cholera disease.
The hospital superintendent Ann Murugi has confirmed that the disease, which was first reported on June 20, 2015 could be as a result of poor sanitation and consumption of affected water.
Murugi said that three patients were admitted at Igegania level four hospital facility suffering from the disease. She revealed that their condition was not critical adding that medics were doing everything possible to save their lives.
The doctor pointed out that the disease was concentrated in Kaibere, Ituramiro and Kianja villages in Chania and Githobokoni wards respectively and is likely to spread if urgent actions are not put in place to apprehend the situation...
Five hospitalised in Garissa over fresh cholera outbreak

Five people from Boka area have been admitted at Garissa Referral Hospital following fresh outbreak of cholera.
According to Dr Hassan Abdullahi, Doctor in charge of Garissa hospital, four of the cholera patients are in a more stable condition while the fifth is yet to stabilize.
Hassan noted that Rabid Diagnosis Tests (RDT)and stool culture have already been carried out on the five patients in the facility where all of them turned positive...

Cholera kills two in Lamu

Two people have died from a cholera outbreak that has hit parts of Lamu County.
The two, a five-year-old child and an adult from Kipini border of Lamu and Tana River Counties died on separate dates this week following the outbreak.
Thirteen other people have been referred to the Witu Dispensary after exhibiting cholera symptoms.
The victims are suspected to have drunk contaminated water.
Due to the drought situation that has hit most parts of Lamu and Tana River counties for the past six months, residents have had to share the scarce water sources with livestock and wild animals, leading to high rate of contamination of the water through faeces and urine...
