At least 12 Somali refugees have died and more than 1,500 fallen sick with cholera at the world's largest refugee camp complex Dadaab in east Kenya over the past two weeks, the UN said on Monday.

The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said that together with other aid workers, it was working to stop the spread of the outbreak by setting up four cholera treatment centres with more than 200 beds to respond to the outbreak.

As of Jan. 31, the outbreak has affected over 1,535 people and resulted in the loss of life for 12 refugees,? UNHCR said in its Bi-weekly report released in Nairobi on Monday...

The number of deaths following a fresh cholera outbreak in the border of Ugunja and Alego/Usonga constituencies in Siaya County has risen to two.

According to Ugunja sub-county Medical Officer of Health Dr. Bernard Onguche, a second cholera victim passed on at Rang?ala Mission Hospital just a day after the first death at Ambira sub-county hospital on Sunday night.

Dr. Onguche said that they have received at least 21 cholera cases at various health facilities within the constituency including Ambira, Rang?ala and St. Paul?s Mission hospitals...

Cholera kills three in Siaya

THREE people have died and 23 been hospitalised due to an outbreak of cholera in Ugunja, Siaya county.

The victims are from Wanga village in Rangala sublocation, Ngunya sublocation and Ugunja town, county director of health Dr Samuel Omondi said yesterday.

Kenya: Students in Hospital As Cholera Outbreak Hits Parts of Mandera

A cholera outbreak has hit Mandera County with 35 cases being reported in the past one week.

The County Public Health Officer Sheikh Abukar however said there was no cause for alarm as they were ready to combat it.

"The first case of cholera was reported on March 1 involving a student from Moi Girls who showed signs while at school," said Mr Abukar.

He said the student infected five of her relatives spreading the disease to three other villages in Mandera East Sub-County.

The Mandera County Referral Hospital received 18 new cases from the school Monday...

Anxiety has gripped one of the largest informal estates in Naivasha after a cholera outbreak which has left five people admitted in Naivasha sub-county hospital.

The five from Kihoto estate include two minors and doctors have termed their condition as stable adding that they are under observation.

The fresh outbreak has been attributed to the water crisis in the estate that is home to hundreds of flower farm workers and relies on water from shallow boreholes...

Five people have been confirmed dead in Sarif, Wajir South constituency, following a cholera outbreak in Wajir County.

Anxiety has gripped Kibera slums in Nairobi County after a suspected cholera outbreak was reported in the area.

Three people were on Tuesday and Thursday the admitted at a Nairobi hospital with cholera-related symptoms. The three who included two minors and one adult, were declared out of danger by doctors at the hospital.

Alarm in Narok as cholera case confirmed

One cholera case has been confirmed in Narok.
This was revealed during a multi-sectoral cholera management meeting at Narok Referral Hospital. The meeting was aimed at devising strategies to combat the outbreak.
County Director of Health Services Francis Kiio said the first case of cholera was confirmed at the facility after specimens from a patient who was admitted with cholera symptoms tested positive.
Dr Kiio said the patient, who hails from Narok town, was admitted at the referral hospital with cholera-like symptoms and was confirmed positive after samples were taken to National Public Health Laboratory in Nairobi.
He said the patient had travelled to Wajir East where there was an outbreak.
The confirmation of this case now puts Narok County on the list of over 10 counties in the country that are grappling with the disease...

Kenya: Cholera Outbreak Kills Five in Mandera, 320 Others Infected

Five people have died after a cholera outbreak in Mandera County while 320 others have been infected.

Health executive Ahmed Sheikh linked the outbreak to poor hygiene and the ongoing heavy rains.

"We have noticed symptoms of cholera which is a normal infection and as we continue treating the patients they are getting better as we are giving them antibiotics and lots of fluids," he said...

Kenya: Ten Killed, 700 Infected With Cholera in Mandera

Ten people have died of cholera and more than 700 infected in Mandera County in the past one month.

Sixty-three patients are currently admitted in a special ward at Mandera referral hospital suffering from the disease.

A Non-Governmental Organization has also set up a camp in the county to help mitigate the fast spreading epidemic.

The death toll from cholera in Mandera has risen to 13 after two more people died yesterday.

89 patients are still admitted at the county's referral hospital.

Medecins Sans Frontieres humanitarian officer Abubakar Abdullahi said the the patients who are at the temporary cholera treatment center at the hospital are in critical condition.
