6 flu deaths reported in the Bluegrass

(LEX 18) — The Center for Disease Control confirms that there have been six flu deaths in Kentucky this season.

According to recent reports, there have been 2,400 reported cases of the flu this season with six deaths. That's an increase of over 800 confirmed cases since earlier this month.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Health officials in Lexington confirmed Thursday morning that the city has recorded its first flu-related death of the season.

Kevin Hall, spokesman for the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department, said the victim was older than 50 and had "underlying health issues."

The schools did not say what the illness is but state health officials have warned that flu is widespread throughout the state.

“All Wolfe County Schools will be closed the remainder of the week due to widespread illness,” the Wolfe County Board of Education school system wrote on its Facebook page Tuesday night.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Lexington health officials confirmed on Monday the city's second flu-related death of the year.

The health department says the person who died was older than 50 with some health issues. That brings the statewide number of known flu-related deaths up to 22.

Lexington has 220 confirmed flu cases, that's an increase of 49 new cases this week.

Infant becomes Lexington's third flu-related death this season

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Another flu-related death has been confirmed in Lexington. This time the victim was less than a year old.

"Children who are younger than five but particularly who are younger than two are at high risk because their immune systems are still building, their bodies are growing," said Kevin Hall, spokesperson for the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department.

The Lexington-Fayette County Health Department says this is the first pediatric flu-related death in Lexington this season and the third flu-related death in Lexington overall.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - The number of new flu cases is up again in Kentucky.

The health department says they confirmed 1,943 new cases over the past week.
