Pichchaguntrahalli plagued by dengue, typhoid

Poor basic amenities and unhygienic conditions reasons for break-out of disease Pichchaguntrahalli in Malur taluk has been affected by dengue and typhoid fever. The village, located in Hoskote taluk in Bangalore Rural district, has only 40 houses. Nearly everyone in village has become bed-ridden.
Many initially began to suffer from aches in the hands and legs, followed by diarrhoea. As the symptoms increased, many of the minor cases have been admitted to a private hospital in Malur. Serious sufferers have been moved to Bowring and MS Ramaiah hospitals in Bangalore.

The drains in the village are clogged, allowing mosquitos and other water-borne parasites to breed. There is a system for delivering drinking water but the pipes run below the clogged drains, leading to water contamination, according to Venkateshappa, a resident. The community?s small size means that whole families have become ill.
