KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Kansas City School District has discovered three cases of the H1N1 virus and that has changed the way the district approaches fighting the illness.
Although a teacher at Garcia Elementary School found out early on that she had the H1N1 virus, parents are concerned about the teachers and students who don't get checked out soon enough.
The Kansas City School District has discovered three cases of the H1N1 virus and that has changed the way officials approach the illness. Crews that normally would only clean the buildings after school hours are now cleaning them multiple times a day.
"We have stepped up our cleaning schedule and we're putting out more hand sanitizers," said district spokesman Andre Riley.
The district has three confirmed cases of H1N1, including a kindergarten teacher at Garcia Elementary.
"She was feeling ill over the holiday weekend and went to the urgent care," said Riley. "The doctor discovered that it was H1N1 and she called the principal to say she wasn't coming to work."
The district said this is not a situation that would prompt them to close schools. Officials said their best defense is to sanitize and clean more.
Parents are still concerned that the virus might spread quickly if no one recognizes the symptoms.
"I'm worried that a child might have it and not know it and pass it off to someone else," said parent Jose Sierra. "How does the school know that?"
