New chicken-pox cases, a cause of worry for KNN, health dept

KANPUR: Speaking volumes about the laid back attitude of officials of health department and Kanpur Nagar Nigam (KNN), eight new cases of
chicken-pox were reported from the Juhi Bamburia locality of the city on Saturday.
These cases have been identified as Ajay (25), Mona (27), Radha (25), Sushil (13), Sunil (12), Ram Asre (42), Akash (13) and Shivrahani (6).
Following this a health department team made a visit to the area and distributed medicines among the people and also inspired them to adopt proper cleanliness measures to prevent the outbreak of any sort of an epidemic. This health team constituted of deputy CMO Dr AK Nigam, Dr KN Sachan, Dr RP Gupta and Dr CK Sachan.
However, on one hand where the authorities continue to claim that the situation is well under control, the last minute efforts by the medical team, KNN staff and the district authorities is yet to make any major impact on the health of locals who continue to suffer from the disease.
A local of Bamburia, Sayid claimed, " The so-called cleanliness drive launched by the KNN is restricted to a certain area, as they are unable to reach the lanes and narrow by-lanes." He added that due to the neglectful attitude of the officials, none cared to ensure the proper implementation of preventive or remedial measures.
When contacted deputy CMO Dr AK Nigam claimed, "The civic conditions of the entire locality is so miserable that our initiatives have no effect for improving the health of the people."
Other than the pathetic cleanliness measures in the city, the adverse weather conditions are also responsible for the increase in the number of patients in the area. Therefore, it has been advised by the doctors, to prevent the consumption of contaminated food and water.
