Jordan reports first two swine flu cases

Amman. Jordanian health authorities on Monday announced the discovery of the first two swine flue cases in the country, the official Petra news agency reported.
Two girls, who arrived earlier from outside the country, have tested positive for the H1N1 virus, the Public Health Minister Nayef al-Fayez said. He did not say from which country they had travelled.

Amman - The Jordanian health authorities on Wednesday reported the discovery of three new swine flu cases, raising to five the number of people testing positive to the H1N1 virus in the country so far.
All five cases arrived in the country earlier this week aboard flights of Royal Jordanian and Lufthansa which originated in the United States, Public Health Minister Nayef Fayez said.

Amman - Jordanian Public Health Minister Nayef Fayez on Saturday announced the discovery of one more swine flu case, bringing the kingdom's total to 12 patients.

The 12th person to test positive for the H1N1 virus was a 16-year- old Iraqi girl who arrived from Chicago as part of an Iraqi sports team of 14 people, Fayez said.

The Iraqi girl is being hospitalized to receive the requirement treatment, while the rest of the Iraqi team, arriving on a transit flight, have already left Amman for Iraq.

Jordanian health authorities have alerted the World Health Organization (WHO) to inform Iraqi authorities to follow up the treatment of the Iraqi sports team, Fayez said.

All the previous 11 swine flu patients, who were Jordanians and Palestinians, came from the United States. Most were part of a 300- member Arab delegation taking part in a scouting team in Washington, the minister said.

'They are responding satisfactorily to the medical treatment at hospital,' Fayez said.

AMMAN - The Kingdom is no longer free of H1N1 (swine) flu, following the registration of two new cases on Tuesday.

Health authorities said that two arrivals in Jordan tested positive yesterday and were admitted to Prince Hamzah Hospital, which discharged its last remaining swine flu case on Monday.

In a statement sent to The Jordan Times, Minister of Health Nayef Fayez said the first case is a 12-year-old Jordanian boy who arrived in Amman on Monday from Saudi Arabia after performing Umra (minor pilgrimage) with his parents, while the second is also a boy of the same age who came from the UAE.

According to Primary Healthcare Director Adel Bilbeisi, the two cases were discovered through the thermal imaging cameras installed at Queen Alia International Airport.

?We referred the two patients immediately to undergo medical checkups after the cameras detected their high fever,? Bilbeisi told The Jordan Times yesterday.

He added that the ministry will continue to follow the same precautionary procedures and request those who feel any symptoms of swine flu to undergo medical tests.

Bilbeisi also called on the public to stay away from crowded areas and avoid close contact with others, in order to help prevent the spread of the disease.

Since the announcement of the first two swine flu cases in the Kingdom on June 15, health authorities have registered 25 cases, including several non-Jordanians.

The ministry has taken several measures to tackle the issue, including establishing a hotline (0799036023) to disseminate information about swine flu, designating 19 health institutions across the Kingdom to receive suspected cases, and installing thermal scanning cameras at Queen Alia International Airport and border crossings to gauge the temperatures of people entering the country.

The ministry also announced that 80 per cent of the Kingdom?s population will be given the H1N1 flu vaccine when it becomes available in October.

AMMAN, July 20 (KUNA) -- Jordan Health Minister Dr. Nayef Al-Fayez announced three swine flu cases on Monday.

He said in a statement one of the patients was a 16-year-old Jordanian national who came from the US, the second was another Jordanian, 25, who flew in from Saudi Arabia, while the third was a 25-year-old Indonesian female who came from her country three days ago.

The three cases were admitted into hospital to receive treatment.
With today's cases, the number of registered swine flu patients in Jordan reached 41, of them 35 have already been recovered. (end) bsb.bs KUNA
