Tokyo man being tested for possible Ebola infection
KYODO
The man was quoted as saying he had no direct contact with Ebola patients but that he “touched with his bare hands” a bag containing a body on Dec. 17 during a burial in the epidemic-hit West African country. He stayed there for eight days through Dec. 21.
He returned to Japan on Dec. 23 and has since stayed at home at the request of authorities.
Finding his temperature had risen to 38.2 C in the early hours of Monday, the man reported his condition to the health center. But his fever dropped to 37.2 C in the morning, according to the Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry.
The man is now hospitalized at a medical institution in Tokyo.
A ministry official declined to clarify why the man traveled to Sierra Leone.
