Japan - Poultry: Avian flu 2022

Source: https://news.yahoo.co.jp/articles/4bae7ddb7f1839aa4f24a967656cea5355c7d19c

Avian influenza found at a poultry farm in Daisen City, Akita, which turned out to be a series of "H5N1 subtypes" nationwide.
4/21 (Thursday) 19:38

As a result of the prefecture's analysis of the avian influenza virus confirmed at the poultry farm in Daisen City, Akita Prefecture, it was found that it is the "H5N1 subtype", which has been reported nationwide this season.

On April 18, a veterinarian at a chicken farm in Daisen City reported that the number of dead chickens was increasing, and subsequent tests revealed that it was a highly pathogenic "H5 type" avian influenza virus. When the prefecture further analyzed the sample, it was found to be "H5N1 subtype".

The "H5N1 subtype" has been confirmed in 11 prefectures such as Hokkaido and Aomori prefectures this season, and is a different type from the avian influenza virus confirmed in Yokote City, Akita Prefecture in 2021.

In addition, the prefecture started incinerating 374 slaughtered chickens at the Prefectural Central Livestock Hygiene Center in Akita City from the 21st. The work is expected to take about a week.

On the other hand, an emergency simultaneous inspection has begun for all poultry farms in the prefecture. From the viewpoint of virus transmission, we are not inspecting on-site, but are asking whether the prefecture is spraying slaked lime through FAX and whether outsiders are restricted from entering.

Emu bird flu is highly pathogenic Ichinoseki facility, epidemic prevention measures completed

The prefecture announced on the 13th that the virus was a highly pathogenic "H5N1 subtype" over the bird flu infection of a large bird, Emu, which was bred at a facility in Ichinoseki City. The facility's epidemic prevention measures were completed by the afternoon of the same day.

At the facility, two emu birds that had been bred had a positive reaction in the prefecture's genetic test. The virus was analyzed by the Agricultural and Food Industry Technology Research Organization (Tsukuba City, Ibaraki Prefecture).

The prefecture has slaughtered a total of 10 emu and ostriches that had been bred in the same place in the facility, and completed the burial by the afternoon of the 13th. The disinfection work of the outbreak facility has been completed, and regular disinfection will be carried out in the future.

Status of occurrence of highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds (suspected case, Isehara City, Kanagawa Prefecture)

On September 25, 2020 (Sunday) in Isehara City, Kanagawa Prefecture, a weakened individual of a peregrine falcon was recovered and later died. On Monday, September 26, 2019, a simple test was conducted, and it was reported that a positive reaction to type A avian influenza virus was confirmed. This is the first suspected outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds this season. In the future, we will conduct genetic testing for this case to confirm whether it is highly pathogenic avian influenza. In response to this report, we will designate an area within 10 km around the collection point as a priority area for wild bird monitoring and strengthen wild bird monitoring.

Bird Flu Outbreak Suspected in Western Japan
Politics Society Oct 27, 2022 22:09 (JST)

Okayama, Oct. 27 (Jiji Press)--A highly pathogenic bird flu outbreak is suspected at a chicken farm in the city of Kurashiki in the western Japan prefecture of Okayama, the prefectural government said Thursday.

The bird flu outbreak, if confirmed by a genetic examination, is the first in Japan this season.

Once the outbreak is confirmed, the prefectural government will cull all chickens at the farm, totaling some 170,000, and restrict transfers of eggs and chickens from all farms within 10 kilometers of the farm in question.

According to the farm ministry, no bird flu outbreak has occurred at any farm in the country in October or earlier. The earliest outbreak in a season so far is the one confirmed on Nov. 5, 2020...

TOKYO: Japan has detected its first outbreaks of bird flu for the season in 2022, with a "highly pathogenic" strain identified at a poultry farm on the main island of Honshu, while the other outbreak was found on the northern island of Hokkaido.

About 170,000 egg-laying chickens are being exterminated at a farm in Kurashiki city, Okayama Prefecture, the agriculture ministry said on its website on Friday. It also established restricted zones up to 10 km (6.2 miles) from the site.

Around 170,000 egg-laying chickens are also being culled at the farm in Atsuma town in Hokkaido, the ministry said...

Officials in Kagawa Prefecture, western Japan, say they have possibly detected the country's third outbreak of bird flu this season.

The officials say they received a report of dead chickens from a poultry farm in the city of Kan-onji on Monday.

Eleven of 13 dead chickens tested positive for the bird flu virus in simple tests.

The officials have asked the farm to refrain from moving chickens and eggs while a more detailed examination is conducted...

Some 40,000 chickens to be slaughtered in Japan due to bird flu
Online News EditorNovember 1, 2022

Tokyo, Nov 1 (EFE).- Japanese authorities ordered Tuesday the slaughter of some 40,000 chickens on a farm in the west of the country after detecting numerous dead birds whose tests were positive for bird flu.

The birds belonged to a poultry farm located in the city of Kanonji, in Kagawa prefecture (Shikoku island), around which an exclusion area of 3 kilometers has been established, according to details published today by the NHK public broadcaster.

On Monday, about 30 poultry were found dead and 13 of them were analyzed, of which 11 tested positive for the highly contagious H5 strain of the avian influenza virus, so authorities decreed the slaughter of tens of thousands of birds from the facilities...

Bird flu virus confirmed as highly pathogenic "H5N1 type"
November 24, 20:46

Genetic analysis revealed that the bird flu virus detected in dead chickens at a chicken farm in Shintomicho was a highly pathogenic "H5N1 type".

On the 19th of this month, the prefecture received a report that several chickens had died from a poultry farm in Shintomi-cho.

According to the prefecture, it was confirmed that the specimens collected from these chickens were the highly pathogenic "H5N1 type" virus as a result of genetic analysis and testing at the research institute of the National Research and Development Agency. .

This is the first time this season that bird flu has occurred at a poultry farm in the prefecture, and on the 22nd of this month, the prefecture finished disposing of approximately 160,000 chickens raised at the same poultry farm and disinfecting the farm. I'm here...

Bird flu sweeps through Japan, spreading at unusual pace
Jiji Nov 27, 2022

Cases of the highly pathogenic avian influenza, or bird flu, are spreading at an unusual pace in Japan, with 18 outbreaks confirmed this season through Saturday at poultry farms in 12 of the country’s 47 prefectures.

But that number is expected to rise further, in line with global trends.

The agriculture ministry is asking farms to take thorough infection prevention measures and to swiftly find and report suspicious cases.

On Oct. 28, the season’s first cases were confirmed at farms in Okayama and Hokkaido prefectures. The cases marked the earliest outbreaks in a season recorded in Japan.

This month, infections were reported intermittently in Kagawa, Hyogo and Ibaraki prefectures.

The number of chickens culled this season has totaled 2.89 million so far, already exceeding the previous season’s total of 1.89 million.

The largest number of bird flu outbreaks in a season in Japan stands at 52 outbreaks in 18 prefectures in 2020...
