July 28 2013 - outdoor concert - in heavy rain - had to be cancelled when 75 women suffered hypothermia, hyperventilation (and vomiting blood *now some question about this early report*).

Re: Japan: mass casualty event - massive outbreak of vomiting blood at concert

Several thoughts...

The incident is described as all women. Unless the concert was from a group that has predominantly female fans, that's an unusual bias, especially with that many cases. In other outbreaks, that could be a sign of hysteria, but with symptoms like vomitting blood and hypothermia, that seems unlikely here.

Vomitting blood (without fever) might suggest expsoure to a toxin such as a blood thinner. The possibility of deliberate poisoning cannot be overlooked. It is difficult to imagine an infectious cause for this incident given the roughly simultaneous onsets.

Interesting. No mention of blood. Hyperventilation and hypothermia are not remarkable in the absence of the vomiting.

None of the women were found to be in serious condition.

The all-male quartet kicked off the concert at Chichibunomiya Rugby Stadium in Aoyama at 6 p.m. but was forced to end it after an hour and 45 minutes when a thunderstorm moved into the area, drenching an estimated 35,000 people.
