About 1,000 dolls made in the late 1960s and early 1970s are displayed on 30 red steps reaching six meters high at the World Folk Doll Museum in Suzaka City, Nagano Prefecture, on Thursday, ahead of the Doll Festival on March 3. The paper lanterns were arranged in a heart shape because Suzaka Art Park, where the museum is located, is known as a "lovers' sanctuary." A museum staffer said: "2011 was a very tough year due to the Great East Japan Earthquake. I hope this display will warm the hearts of our visitors."
