Man in Kumamoto Prefecture infected with Japanese encephalitis, first confirmed in Japan in 2023

​ Kumamoto Prefecture announced on the 22nd that a man in his 70s in Tamana County was infected with Japanese encephalitis. The man has impaired consciousness and is hospitalized at a medical institution within the jurisdiction of the Ariake Public Health Center. This is the first case in the country where an infected person has been confirmed this year.
