Following the confirmation today of animals infected with classical swine fever, a livestock infectious disease, at a pig farm in Fujinomiya City, Shizuoka Prefecture, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries held a rotating meeting of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Classical Swine Fever/African Swine Fever Prevention Headquarters to decide on future response policies.

There is a possibility that the virus for this disease is present at the site and surrounding areas, which could lead to the spread of the disease via people and vehicles. We ask for your cooperation in strictly refraining from reporting at the site and surrounding areas.

(2) As Shizuoka Prefecture's inspection raised suspicions of classical swine fever, the Animal Health Research Division of the National Agriculture and Food Research Organization (NARO) conducted detailed inspections, and on Wednesday, March 11th, it was determined that the animals were suffering from classical swine fever.

(1) Necessary quarantine measures will be promptly and appropriately implemented, such as the culling and incineration of the pigs raised on the farm.
(2) A national epidemiological investigation team will be dispatched to investigate the route of infection.
(3) Early detection and early reporting of the disease will be ensured.
(4) Full cooperation will be maintained with relevant ministries and agencies, and efforts will be made to provide accurate information to producers, consumers, distributors, etc.
(5) Thorough guidance will be given on compliance with animal husbandry hygiene management standards, such as disinfecting farms and preventing wild animals from entering farms.

Date and time: Wednesday, March 11, 2026 (held in rotation)

5.Other

(1) Classical swine fever is a disease of pigs and wild boars and is not contagious to humans.
(2) We ask for your cooperation in strictly refraining from on-site reporting, as this may cause the spread of the disease and violate the privacy of farmers.
In particular, we ask that you strictly refrain from using helicopters or drones to report on the situation, as this may interfere with quarantine efforts.
(3) We will continue to strive to provide prompt and accurate information, so we ask for your cooperation in ensuring that producers and other stakeholders, as well as consumers, do not become confused by unfounded rumors.
