Two more patients died of Swine Flu at Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura, taking the death toll to 27 this season.
Sources at SKIMS told Rising Kashmir that a woman hailing from central Kashmir?s Budgam district died of H1N1 on Tuesday.
?She was a case of comorbidities and also tested positive for H1N1 influenza earlier in the week,? they said.
Another male patient from Ganderbal died of influenza on January 7 due to H1N1 at the hospital.

Pregnant woman, whose baby was saved, dies of H1N1

A pregnant woman, whose baby was saved by doctors at Sher-e-Kashmir institute of medical sciences two weeks ago, and another male patient have died of H1N1 influenza this week, taking the total number of such deaths to 29 at the hospital this season, so far.
A source said that a 30-year-old woman, admitted to the surgical intensive care unit of SKIMS for about a month, died earlier this week.

Srinagar diary: Swine Flu death toll rises to 27

With two more deaths reported this week, the death toll by Swine Flu in the state has risen to 27 this season. The highest number of Swine Flu deaths in the state was reported in 2015 wherein 21 people had died. Sher-I-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences is the only testing and treatment centre in the Valley. The hospital has so far received 185 H1N1 patients and most of them were discharged after treatment. Doctors Association Kashmir, led by Dr Nisar ul Hassan, has advised doctors not to prescribe antibiotics to patients suffering from flu. ?Swine flu is a viral infection and it cannot be contained by taking antibiotics,? Hassan said.

The death toll due to Swine Flu has risen to 31 this season in Jammu and Kashmir including 28 deaths alone at Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, Soura so far.
As per the figures revealed by Ministry for Health and Family Welfare, which maintains the records of Swine Flu cases across India under its Integrated Diseases Surveillance Programme (IDSP), a total of 31 patients have died due to H1N1 this season.
?25 patients died in the previous year, while as six (06) deaths were reported in the past three weeks,? the statistics which has been updated on14 January noted adding that at least 8 positive cases were detected this month (January).
The first death this season was reported on 23 October (2017).

[h=1]28 Swine Flu Deaths Reported From Kashmir[/h] Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Health Bali Bhagat today said 28 deaths have been reported so far in Sheri Kashmir Institute of Medical Science Srinagar. He said a total 137 cases were registered in the institute out of which 107 were discharged and two patients are still admitted and being treated by the doctors.

He said every effort is being made by the Government to provide requisite facilities to deal with the swine flu.

A woman died of swine flu last month leaving behind an eight-month-old baby. She was taken to Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura, on the evening of February 16, for swine flu treatment.
Minutes after her admission to SKIMS, she went into coma and succumbed the next day. Doctors said she was suffering from swine flu, but died due to a heart attack.
In all, 32 people have died from swine flu infections in Kashmir in the past six months.
As per the SKIMS records, 32 people have died in 2017-2018 while as the Union Health Ministry puts the number at nine in J&K.

Comment: According to our records, J&K reported 26 deaths in calendar year 2017 and 9 in 2018 to Feb 18. Only 6 of the deaths were reported between Sep 1 and Dec 31 of 2017. - Ro
 
Year?s first swine flu death in Kashmir

A 60-year-old man died of N1H1 influenza at Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura.
It is the first death due to Swine Flu in Valley this season. About a dozen more have tested positive for the virus.
Mohammad Yusuf of Shopian district, who was admitted at SKIMS after he had complained of swine flu symptoms, died in the first week of this month.
?He was admitted on September 24. The patient was tested positive for influenza and died. He was also a case of esophageal cancer,? the sources said.
This season Swine Flu cases started pouring in from mid-September.
Officials at SKIMS said a total of 90 people, who had complained of virus, were tested. ?Of them, 12 have tested positive and only one patient is admitted at the facility.?
