The 2009 influenza A(H1N1) pandemic has provided an opportunity to assess the United States' efforts to mitigate the health consequences of this flu outbreak, said the Government Accountability Office (GAO) in a report released June 27 ( http://tinyurl.com/3bu7fmp ).
The GAO said that perhaps 89 million pandemic flu cases occurred in the United States.
The report said public surveys found that communication about the flu by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was generally successful but fell short of meeting the needs of some non?English-speaking populations. The surveys also indicated that deployment of the Strategic National Stockpile of medicine and supplies to be used for a national emergency met its goals, and that the credibility of all levels of government was diminished when the amount of vaccine ?
