Health | IMSS | COPD
Warning continues in respiratory infections. ARCHIVE
IMSS reiterated the importance of implementing anti-influenza vaccine to children and elderly
In the 50th epidemiological week, including 19 to December 25 eight thousand 877 registered cases of these diseases
GUADALAJARA, JALISCO (30/DIC/2010) .- bronchitis and bronchopneumonia are diseases that are triggered as the reason for medical care and family medicine units and hospitals in IMSS during the Winter
Specialists from the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS) in Jalisco stressed that cases with these conditions increase up to a third, according to the records usual in this area of diseases.
Stated that until the 50th epidemiological week, including 19 to December 25, these diseases together accounted for an aggregate of eight thousand 877 cases, the most affected the elderly and children. Fever, cough and malaise, defined as a feeling of fatigue are symptoms that suggest the presence of any of these diseases, if not addressed, they can even be fatal.
Especially when it comes to patients who, in the case of the elderly, have added some other disease such as diabetes and hypertension.
Physicians indicated that a significant risk in children, is that these diseases may not present with fever, so you have to watch carefully the child's behavior to see if it is irritable, lethargic and not eat because they can suggest that this is one of the problems already mentioned.
Since its origin can be from bacteria or viruses, is the physician who must make the assessment of each case and therefore define the treatment.
In the case of caused by bacteria, antibiotics are prescribed, while the virus require treatment for symptoms that include antihistamines to reduce discomfort.
Commented that although not with the same emphasis as the previous year, the alert on respiratory tract infections continues.
Stressed the importance, especially those belonging to the age groups mentioned above, and apply the anti-influenza vaccine to protect against viral forms of such disorders.
They said that regardless of the origin of the disease, hydration and rest are very important because particularly in viral-type diseases, helps relieve the patient faster, although on average, it takes between seven and 10 days a full recovery.
Made special mention of doctors in the case of people who smoke and who therefore have developed a condition that compromises respiratory function properly, as is the case of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).
In these cases said they must be alert to symptoms such as shortness of breath and productive cough, that is, with mucus, which also displayed blood.
Another important detail that deserves immediate alert health care in such cases is the onset of high fever or chills, or if the temperature rises slightly but lasts for three days or more.
