This would be yet another person suspected of having bird flu in the last week from Kalideres in west Jakarta. The first was a 14 year old (known as Randy) admitted on January 5th, confirmed to be infected on January 8th and later died on January 10th--thought to be duck-related. It would be invaluable to know if this happens to be the brother or some other relation or neighbor. They had said at the time that they were going to launch an investigation into that neighborhood of Kalideres, so perhaps this is one of the results of that investigation. Note that Randy/Ramli's mother, brother, cousin, aunt as well as possibly three neighbors were hospitalized too at one point in the past week (or are still hospitalized/sent home/tested negative)--see http://www.flutrackers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14867
The number of people potentially in this cluster may be on the order of nine to eleven people.

I believe that at least five individual in this possible cluster associated with a WHO confirmed case (Randi, Ramli) tested negative and were discharged.

Re: Jakarta - Jan 13+

The patient's family suspect bird flu that was treated in the Friendship Hospital, Jakarta East, complained about the shortage of information from the doctor's side concerning the condition for the patient.

They could only know the condition for his family's member through the telephone.
The complaint was in part sent by Yanti Yohaenty.

The husband as well as the child Yanti were treated in RS the Friendship since three days set.

Yanti admits to, up to now never meeting the team of the doctor who handled the husband and his child.

He hoped could be informed the condition for his family and his returning time.
Yanti's unrest was seldom treated after could speak with his husband, Sukanta.

According to Yanti, Sukanta and the child both of them, Rama (17) felt has improved.
However, they were not yet permitted to come home because still must be waiting for results of the test PCR. This because both of them had the story of direct contact with the poultry.

That was justified by Yanti. Before the husband and his child were sick, around 20 poultries in his house died suddenly.

Yanti's sadness increasingly was entertained during several employees Telcom Bekasi visited his husband. They could speak with Sukanta through the telephone that was available in the waiting room.

DOCTORS DISCONNECT VENTILATOR FROM BIRD FLU PATIENT

Jakarta 19/1/2007 (Kominfo-Newsroom) ? Doctors disconnect a ventilator from a positive bird flu patient, thus letting Arf (male, 18), at Persahabatan Hospital, East Jakarta, to breathe without any assistance.

In spite of that, Arf remains under tight supervision at the ICCU ward. We are still afraid the H5N1 virus are still on the loose, said Dr Mochtar Ikhsan, chairman of a team of medics in charge of avian flu patients here Friday (19/1).

?This is a heartening thing. Arf was in serious condition before he gradually recovered. Now he is not attached to any respiration device. We did the disconnection after intensive lab and thorax check up,? he added.

Dr Djalil, a member of the team, said four of six suspects treated at the hospital, had been permitted to go home. Each of them had three PCR tests, all three results turned out negative.

The four lucky ones are: father (Sn, 44) and son (Rn, 17), Kr (11) and Dw (5).

The remaining two, Sd (26) from Tangerang, and Ns(7) from Bekasi are still suspects because doctors are still waiting for their PCR results from the Health Department. Condition of the two, however, is relatively normal, Dr Ikhsan said. (
