Jackson County student has H1N1
By Ryan Blackburn | Athens Banner-Herald | Story updated at 4:48 pm on 8/14/2009

Custodians at Kings Bridge Middle School in Jackson County rushed to disinfect a wing of the middle school early today, hours after school staff learned a student there had come down with H1N1, also called swine flu.

A parent notified school staff late Thursday when the student was diagnosed with the virus, and workers scrubbed down the building in time for classes to start on time Friday, Superintendent Shannon Adams said.

?They did a very thorough job on that wing and did some other places in the school where there was some potential for hand contact,? Adams said. ?School started on time and things are going very well.?

Adams also sent out a news release reminding parents, students and school district staff to follow Center for Disease and Control guidelines by covering their mouths and washing hands to prevent the virus from spreading.

The student at Kings Bridge Middle School is the second this week to contract H1N1, a virus similar to the seasonal flu.

Over the weekend, a Hilsman Middle School student in Clarke County came down with the H1N1 flu.
