Evidence for viral persistence, antiviral resistance and reassortment events in seasonal influenza viruses circulating in Cambodia.
Fourment M, Mardy S, Channa M, Buchy P. - Institut Pasteur in Cambodia, Virology Unit. 5, Monivong Boulevard, PO Box 983, Phnom Penh, Cambodia; and Department of Biological Sciences, Macquarie University, Sydney NSW 2109, Australia.
The analysis of A/H1N1 and A/H3N2 influenza viruses collected between 2005 and 2008 in Cambodia detected strains resistant to oseltamivir and confirmed widespread resistance to adamantanes. Phylogenetic analyses revealed intra-subtype reassortment, probable re-emergence of A/H3N2 viruses in two consecutive seasons and co-circulation of different lineages in each subtype.
