An outbreak of avian influenza is declared in the Department of Grand-Bassam precisely in the locality of Mondoukou, region of Sud-Comoé.

According to a prefectural source note, it is an infection of highly pathogenic avian influenza subtype H5N1.

Said locality is declared a protection zone, a territory of three kilometers from the center of infection detected.

The sanitary measures prescribed in the source of infection and in the protection zone are as follows:

Stamping out of all poultry present; Destruction of poultry corpses and livestock products; Destruction of any material and any waste likely to be contaminated, such as poultry feed; Cleaning and disinfection of farms and their contaminated environment; Prohibition of movements of poultry, products and their derivatives, breeding equipment and food; Closure of subsequent poultry markets and gathering places; Stopping of activities related to the processing, transport, distribution and marketing of poultry, products and by-products.

Abidjan (Reuters) -Côte d’Ivoire has identified an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 bird flu near the commercial capital Abidjan and has taken steps to curb its spread, the Ministry of Livestock said in a statement.

The ministry confirmed the presence of the virus on Wednesday, after a large number of poultry began to die in the Gran Bassam Commune on July 20.

According to the statement, poultry movement is restricted within the Grand-Bassam area, about 42 kilometers (26 miles) from Abidjan. Imports of poultry from other infected countries have been suspended.

Birds were slaughtered near the outbreak, not to mention the number, according to the statement...

The DSV receives biosafety equipment for the fight against avian flu

Abidjan - As part of the fight against highly pathogenic avian influenza (bird flu), the National Poultry Production Support Program (PAPAN) handed over biosecurity equipment to the Directorate of Veterinary Services (DSV) on Monday October 31, 2022 at the Veterinary Rabies Center located in Abidjan Cocody.

Representing the Minister of Animal and Fisheries Resources, Sidi Touré, his chief of staff indicated that this donation to the DSV, the mainspring of the fight against zoonoses, in this case avian flu, aims to make poultry farming , a competitive sector, respectful of the environment and in a competitive context, by 2030.

This government ambition involves, among other things, building the capacities of actors in the poultry sector, in order to better play its role of creator of wealth and jobs, continued Gouromenan Kouakou Assoumany.

The equipment provided consists of 2,500 health passes, as many disinfection certificates, traceability notebooks (5,000 pages), 5,028 stickers as well as disinfection equipment (three latest-generation atomizers, manual sprayers, 200 cans of 20 liters of disinfection product, 636 rapid tests), listed the PAPAN coordinator, Dr Essoh Franck. In addition, there are 25 personal protective equipment (PPE), 1,000 caps and 1,000 shoes.

As for the Director of Veterinary Services, Dr. Kallo Vessaly, he noted that avian flu is the main constraint in the poultry sector, with epidemics reported in 2006, 2015 and 2021 in different localities.

Since July 2021, veterinary police operations have made it possible to contain the disease, in particular through the destruction of chicks and eggs, the disinfection of 250 households, the awareness of actors in the sector, the disinfection of 95 poultry markets and of five rest areas for migratory birds, as well as the compensation of operators in the sector to more than 700 million FCFA.

For his part, the vice-president of the Poultry Interprofession (IPRAVI), Fofana Sindou, indicated that one of the major weaknesses in production remains the low level of biosecurity. On behalf of President Sylvain N'Gotta, he encouraged all initiatives involved in building the capacity of users of this equipment.

Ministry of Animal and Fisheries Resources Official CI

The Ministry of Animal and Fisheries Resources relieves poultry breeders in Grand Bassam and surrounding areas, victims of stamping out. This Thursday, November 30 in Bassam, the MIRAH carried out the second phase of compensation for these breeders, hit by the avian flu epidemic in 2021 and 2022.

At this ceremony chaired by Mr. Jean Pierre BANNY, Technical Advisor at MIRAH, representing the Minister of Animal and Fisheries Resources, Mr. SidiTiémoko TOURE, 26 victim breeders received compensation checks from the government for a total amount of 130 million CFA francs. Previously in 2022, 640 million CFA francs had been disbursed to compensate breeders who were victims of avian flu in order to revive their activity.

The MIRAH is committed to continuing its awareness-raising efforts, recalling that the first measure to prevent avian flu at its source remains compliance with hygiene rules through the strengthening of biosecurity on farms and in value chains. poultry.

Note that the poultry sector is of remarkable socio-economic importance which results in a turnover of more than 250 billion CFA Francs, and creates more than 150,000 direct and indirect jobs.

A case of avian flu confirmed in the commune of Adiaké

Adiaké (AIP) - A case of avian flu has been confirmed in the commune of Adiaké, announced Wednesday, December 20, 2023, the prefect of the Adiaké department, Trazié Geraldo Lucie.

The prefectural authority indicated that this case of avian flu was reported in the Soubressi camp, two kilometers from Adiaké.

She explained that this confirmation came after the samples taken by the veterinary services and analyzed in a laboratory in Bingerville were positive.

This pathology, indicated the prefect, is contagious for both poultry and humans. She therefore took measures to contain the problem.

This involves not selling poultry everywhere in the city and finding a single place of sale for everyone in order to be able to identify the farm from which the disease originated.

“No poultry should leave or enter Adiaké,” she said.

For the departmental director of animal and fishery resources, Amon Astain Denis, the origin of this pathology could come from healthy carrying wild birds which come to the farms or from the human being himself who brings animals from the farm to the farm. other farms or livestock equipment.
