Food poisoning in Affery: The government stands with the grieving families
September 4, 2024
On Tuesday, August 20, 2024, the town of Affery, in the department of Akoupé, was shaken by an unprecedented tragedy. Food poisoning claimed the lives of five people, including four members of the same family. This tragedy, which occurred between Wednesday, August 21 and the following Saturday, plunged the community into deep sadness and raised a shock wave. Faced with this dramatic situation, the government wanted to express its solidarity with the families of the victims. On September 3, 2024, a delegation led by Doho Patricia, Technical Advisor, representing the Minister of National Cohesion, Solidarity and the Fight against Poverty, Myss Belmonde Dogo, went to Affery and Akoupé to bring the nation's compassion to these hard-hit families .
In the meeting room of the Affery sub-prefecture, Doho Patricia stressed that this tragedy leaves no one indifferent and that the entire nation shares the pain of the bereaved families. "These tragic events could not leave the Government indifferent, we are here today, to tell you Yako" . She also affirmed that the State stands firmly alongside these families to provide them with all the necessary support in this difficult period.
After Affery, the delegation went to Akoupé where the 4 victims of the same family resided. The representative of Minister Myss Belmonde Dogo expressed the government's compassion as well as to Affery.
On behalf of the government, Doho Patricia made cash donations to the families of the victims totaling 2,500,000 FCFA at a rate of 500,000 FCFA per victim and donations of food and non-food items consisting of 10 bags of rice of 22kg, 4 cartons of oil and 4 cartons of soap. These donations come to somewhat compensate for the pain of the bereaved families, she stressed.
"With this gesture, it must be said, we are very touched by the State's support for our parents and our families," said Sanon Koffi Marcel, Mayor of Akoupé.
Following him, Séka Achiepo Herman, the spokesperson for the families, expressed their gratitude to the Head of State and Minister Myss Belmonde Dogo.
By going to Affery and Akoupé, the government, through the Ministry of National Cohesion, Solidarity and the Fight against Poverty, wishes not only to support the families, but also to honor the memory of the victims, thus demonstrating that national solidarity is not an empty word, but a lived and shared reality.
