Abidjan - A "bird flu" dance, inspired by the spasms of a dying chicken, has appeared in nightclubs in the Ivorian capital of Abidjan - less than two weeks after the disease was discovered in the west African country.
According to a video broadcast on a show business internet site (www.abidjanshow.com) on Monday, the dance took off at a large outdoor bar, Marcory-Gasoil, in the working-class area of Marcory.
The area is one of two Abidjan districts where the H5N1 virus was identified.
On the site, dancers are shown swinging their arms behind them to imitate bird wings.
Ivorian singer Aisha Kone helped promote the new dance in a show broadcast on local television on Friday.
Dance moves and rhythms inspired by social, political or sporting events are a frequent creation in the Ivorian music scene.
