Abidjan (Ivory Coast) - The bird flu virus is suspected in a traditional breeding of over a hundred poultry in Bouake (379 km north of Abidjan), announced on Friday, the Ivorian Minister of Animal Resources and fisheries Kobenan Kouassi Adjoumani.

"We inform of the suspicion of avian influenza in samples taken after mass mortalities recorded on May 18, 2015, in a farmyard, in the Koko neighborhood of Bouake," the Minister Adjoumani said during a press conference.

He said so far "there is only one isolated and controlled outbreak . Of the 138 birds, 93 were infected and the others survive. "

"No cases of mass mortality has been reported in modern farms. Moreover, it is particularly an occupational disease exposing much more the farmers and live poultry dealers (...) ", said the minister of animal resources and fisheries.

A team of United Nations experts of the Organization for Food and Agriculture (FAO) was deployed in support of prevention and preparedness for response in case of introduction of avian influenza in this country .

Last April, the virus of bird flu was detected in Burkina Faso, a country bordering the north of Ivory Coast.
