There is an outbreak of avian flu in a chicken farm in the province of Alessandria.
This was announced by the Piedmont Region, explaining that 'epidemiological investigations are underway to understand the origin of the virus'.
This morning in the Region, the meeting of the crisis unit was held with the Ministry of Health and the National Reference Center 'to establish the measures to be taken, based on the provisions of the law envisaged'.
'The situation is under control and is constantly monitored' says the councilor for health Federico Riboldi, who is directly following the evolution of the case.
New intervention by the ASL AL and the Zooprophylactic Institute of Piedmont, Liguria and Valle d'Aosta after the identification of a second outbreak of avian influenza in the province of Alessandria, a short distance from the farm in Monferrato where the virus had already been found last week.
The analyzes confirmed the presence of the disease in another chicken farm, located in the same area. The health authorities therefore immediately started the depopulation procedures of the approximately 60 thousand animals present in the structure. At the end of this phase, the complete disinfection of the premises will be carried out to eliminate any possible residue of contagion.
"The outbreak is contained, but we are not letting our guard down," said the regional councilor for health Federico Riboldi, stressing that controls and analyzes continue in all neighboring areas. Monitoring and prevention activities continue in synergy between the Local Health Authority, the Region and the Zooprophylactic Institute, with the aim of containing the spread of the virus and ensuring the safety of poultry farms in the area.
