Italy - new outbreak of avian influenza H5N8 in a mixed-species farm in Treviso province (Veneto region)

On the 1 December, the National Reference Laboratory for Avian Influenza and Newcastle Disease confirmed as positive for Avian Influenza A virus subtype H5N8 a mixed -species farm in Treviso province (Veneto region). At the time of confirmation, the farm hosted 1,280 broilers, 6,006 fattening ducks and 135 mallards (Anas platyrhynchos). Samples were collected after a mortality increase was observed started on 28 November. The same epidemiological unit includes another mixed species farm, hosting 3,860 birds. Control and eradication measures were applied to the whole epidemiological unit. Culling procedures were concluded on 2 December. Further information will be provided as soon as available.
