The Padua Microbiology Laboratory reported a case of dengue in a 54-year-old patient residing in the Municipality of Montecchio Maggiore (VI). Following microbiological investigations, it was defined that this is a native case of dengue fever , as the subject did not travel abroad recently, but the infection was transmitted by the tiger mosquito which stung a family member who returned to late July from Indonesia, which today was confirmed to be the index case. This was announced by the Prevention Department of the Veneto Region.
“The patient - the regional prevention experts report - manifested a flu-like symptomatology which began on August 16 and resolved on August 20. Other members of the family, who are currently in good health and have not been hospitalized, presented the same symptoms, which lasted a few days. The outbreak appears to be limited to a family level . All planned disinfestation interventions have been started ".

Following the reporting to the Municipality, by Ulss 8 Berica, of new cases of people infected with the dengue virus residing in the area adjacent to the first outbreak recorded about ten days ago, the mayor of Montecchio Maggiore has issued a new ordinance aimed at favor the disinfestation operations of the tiger mosquito, vector of the virus, by the company appointed by the health company, which deals with the health management of the emergency.
The new intervention will be concentrated in the area already affected by the first disinfestation and will be extended to the proximal area in via Castelli 4 Martiri for a radius of 250 meters. This is based on the indications given by the Veneto Region through specific operational protocols, which provide the possibility of extending the range of action according to the environmental situation verified by the personnel in charge of surveillance.
Through the provision signed a few days ago, the mayor orders all citizens who have the effective availability of open areas within the affected area to allow access to the operators of the Triveneta di Vigonza (PD) company in charge of the disinfestation and close the windows during the hours of execution of the treatment (which will end on 7 September unless otherwise provided by the ULSS 8) ...
