Two cases of Dengue fever, within hours of each other. They have been reported in the past few hours in Tuscany, in the province of Pisa, with the authorities who have already moved to circumscribe the potential outbreak. And averting the risk of the virus spreading to the rest of the national territory, although the news of a probable new case in Lombardy has already arrived.
The first found in chronological order dates back to a couple of days ago, in Cascina: Asl Toscana Nord Ovest reported to the mayor Michelangelo Betti the infection contracted by a citizen returning from a trip abroad, where he was bitten by a tiger mosquito . The person in question would not be in danger of life, but on the basis of current legislation, the implementation of larvicidal interventions and the elimination of larval outbreaks by the public administration in an area with a radius of two hundred meters starting from place of residence of the infected person. This is because according to experts it is a disease that is more widespread in tropical and sub-tropical areas, often holiday destinations or business trips for Italian and European citizens in general.
The virus is transmitted through the bite of the mosquito that passes from a positive person to a negative one, infecting them. In its most widespread form, it usually involves high fever, muscle aches, headache and nausea and according to what reported on the Ministry of Health website, it can also lead to the patient's death (although a timely clinical diagnosis and careful clinical management by part of doctors and health workers obviously increase patient survival). A few hours ago, however, a new case was also found in the Pisan capital. And also the center-right mayor Michele Conti, just like his colleague from Cascina, acted by signing an urgent measure for the execution of the necessary disinfestation operations, following the communication received from the North West Tuscany Local Health Authority. Also at this juncture it was a person returning from a stay in tropical countries.
Two episodes within the Tuscan borders, therefore, but they would not be the only ones. Indeed, just a few hours ago a suspected case of Dengue was also reported in Brescia, with a reclamation operation in the affected city area already carried out by the Health Protection Agency. Attention remains high throughout the country.
