[TD]Dated 23 February 2017 a positive case for highly pathogenic influenza A virus subtype H5N8 was detected on a duck (Tadorna tadorna) found close to the mouth of the river Po. The animal was found still alive but died on 26 December 2016 at the Wildlife Rescue Centre (CRFS) in the province of Rovigo. The carcass was stored in a freezer at CRFS until 20 February 2017, date on which it was delivered to the Clinical Diagnostic Laboratory. Tests carried out on 18 other birds were negative after the investigation of the Experimental Zooprophylactic Institute (IZS), Venezie.[/TD]
