Giuseppe

Emeritus
According to the Italian Ministry of Health an A(H3N2) seasonal influenza virus with reduced sensitivity to neuraminidase inhibitors drugs was isolated in an immunocomprised patient in Pavia (northern Italy) during the surveillance week 05/2012 (from January 30 to February 5 2012).

The resistant virus had an amino acid substitution at position 292 (R292K) in the surface glycoprotein gene neuraminidase, target of the newest antivirals drugs such as Oseltamivir and Zanamivir, known to confer resistance to these compounds.

The virus was isolated from clinical samples from a patient under antiviral therapy.
