AFTER HAVING denied possibility of chikungunya for a long while, the administration and the health authorities have finally geared themselves up for a massive awareness campaign to fight the disease in Indore division.

Cleanliness drives and awareness campaign would be held not just in Indore city but all over the urban and rural areas of the division to tackle the menace of chikungunya and other vector-borne diseases.

The campaign would also include spraying of anti-mosquito medicines in all areas. This was decided at a meeting called by Divisional Commissioner Ashok Das this evening to review the situation, an official media release said here.

District Collector Vivek Aggarwal and Joint Director (Health) Dr S K Srivastava among others attended the meeting chaired by Das who took stock of works being done in all the four districts of the division.

The most important thing Das suggested was that all doctors remain present in the respective dispensaries and not avail any leave so as to attend to the patients immediately.

The meeting decided to carry out a massive awareness campaign and spraying of anti-mosquito medicines in the urban and rural areas of the division. The IEC (information, education and communication) campaign would include informing people about ways to prevent themselves from mosquitoes and keeping the area clean. He also asked to take help of NGOs for the same.

Aggarwal informed about the steps taken by the administration in Indore district. Hoardings have been put up at all prominent places and publicity material like pamphlets would be distributed to the masses even in the city buses, he informed.

Also, mobile units have been formed to treat patients and the administration would hold health camps to fight the disease, which is under control in the district, the release said.

The meeting was also attended by MY Hospital Superintendent Dr D K Jain, IMC Deputy Commissioner K R Jain, Chief Medical and Health Officers (CHMOs) from all four districts and representatives of a few NGOs, the release added.
