Nov. 26 - A delegation of Palestinian doctors and veterinarians has arrived in Israel for the first time to receive a crash course in avian flu prevention. The invitation was issued by the Veterinary Services of the Israeli Agriculture Ministry. Human beings have only been able to contract avian flu through direct contact with infected or sick poultry. The bird flu has killed more than 80 people, mostly in Asia, since it reemerged in late 2003. In order to prevent a breakout of the flu in the Palestinian territories, the Palestinian vets will undergo training in Israel and will receive logistical support in combating avian flu, including learning methods to identify the flu in poultry and visits to Israeli laboratories to test samples.
