Israel reports 13th A/H1N1 death case

JERUSALEM, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- A woman infected with A/H1N1 virus died in hospital, bringing the total number of the flu-related deaths in Israel to 13, local news service Ynet reported on Sunday.
The 27-year-old patient was hospitalized with pneumonia over the weekend and died shortly afterwards, said the report. Though it was still uncertain whether she died of A/H1N1 flu complications, the policy of Israeli Health Ministry is to attribute the unclear deaths of A/H1N1 flu patients to the virus.
The 12th death case in the country was a four-year-old girl infected with A/H1N1, who died on Friday.
About a dozen other A/H1N1 flu patients are still in intensive care units across the country, while official statistics showed that among some seven million residents, over 2,100 have been diagnosed with the global epidemic, half of whom are under the age of 30.
Israeli health experts have warned that about one quarter of the total Israeli population would contract the virus during a possible outbreak this winter, among whom around 700 would die.
The Israeli government has initiated a plan for precaution, including purchasing a large quantity of vaccines.
