Bird flu found in chickens in kibbutz in northern Israel

The Agriculture Ministry found chickens infected with the bird flu in Kibbutz Ma'anit in northern Israel, the ministry announced on Wednesday.The affected chicken coop was closed by the ministry and nearby farms were placed under restrictions.

The strain of bird flu found in the chickens was H5N8, which affects a variety of chickens, but has not yet been found to infect humans.

The Ministry of Agriculture said today (Thursday) that two more cases of bird flu have been detected in the last day. One at a swan at the Biblical Zoo and the other at a turkey coop in Kibbutz Revadim. All the animals were locked up. Yesterday, a case of bird flu was discovered in a coop at Kibbutz Ma'anit in the Menashe Regional Council.

Israel reports 4 more cases of avian influenza in commercial farms:

Oct 29: an outbreak in Kibbutz Gvat, broiler breeders, 62 wks old, 22,000 birds.
Oct 30: an outbreak in Kibbutz Sluhot, meat turkeys, 16.5 wks old, 21,000 birds.
Oct 31: an outbreak in Ma'ayan Zvi, Turkey breeders, 14 wks old - 8,200 birds.
Nov 2: an outbreak in a broiler farm in the Golan heights - Ma'ale Gamla. The flock is 5.5 wks old. 130,000 bird will be culled.

Ministry of Agriculture: Another case of bird flu was discovered at a turkey farm for fattening at Kibbutz Tzora near Beit Shemesh

It is estimated that the cause of infection in all the cases discovered so far is migratory birds

The Ministry of Agriculture has completed the treatment of all influenza centers that have been so far. The ministry also emphasizes that the bird flu strain found in all previous cases has not been diagnosed in humans so far



The Ministry of Agriculture updates that in the last day, another chicken coop was found to be sick with bird flu. This is a turkey coop for fattening in Kibbutz Tzora. In accordance with the procedure, Dr. Ram Katz, Chief Physician of Poultry Health at the Veterinary Services, ordered the closure of the poultry farms within a 10 km radius of the patient coop. Monitoring is performed in the quarantine area, along with other inspections and inspections by veterinary services professionals at the Ministry of Agriculture Routinely.



Recently, a total of 10 cases of birdflu found in H5N8 bird flu, which has so far not been diagnosed as a human infection, have been detected.
