A northern Manitoba resident has reportedly become the province's first seasonal flu death, and northern leaders are urging Manitobans to wash up and work to stay healthy.
On Friday, Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak announced an Island Lake resident died recently of seasonal flu.
MKO, which represents 30 northern First Nations, declined to give details about the deceased "out of respect for the community." MKO spokeswoman Inez Vystrcil-Spence said the announcement was made to spread awareness about flu prevention, especially in remote communities.
