CIUDAD DE BUENOS AIRES (Urgente24) .- The death toll from influenza A (H1N1) confirmed by the Brazilian Ministry of Health was 557 people until last day 22, thus displacing USA's first global death toll from the pandemic.

USA reported so far the figure of 522, and stood behind Argentina, with 439 dead. Far behind with 179 came Mexico, Australia, 132; Chile, with 128 and Thailand with 119. To account for these numbers is also necessary to consider that countries use different dates in their official reports, since, for instance, while Brazil is 22 August, the U.S. figure is confirmed by the 15th, the same as reported in Argentina.

Moreover, and more importantly, in terms of deaths per capita, Brazil is just the 7th. since, with a rate of 0.29 per 100,000 inhabitants.

The rate of deaths per number of inhabitants, it is Argentina that takes the tragic first place with 1.08 deaths per 100,000 population, followed by Chile (0.75), Costa Rica (0.67), Paraguay (0.65) and Australia (0.61).

In this country, and after the initial alarm, the Government came to announce that the worst of the crisis had passed. Indeed, the declaration came as the Southern Cone began to leave the hardest winter, time of maximum spread of the flu.

According to Health Minister, Juan Manzur, there was an "epidemiological curve decreased. It was just a statement that triggered Manzur own psychosis in the country when he estimated that there were 100,000 Argentine contagion. It was on July 3 and had just taken office by the resignation of his predecessor, Graciela Oca?a, who was based in a silent protest because the government prevented it belonged to the health crisis in an election campaign. After the elections, the authorities have come to decree a bridge forced the closure of entertainment venues and lasted the entire month of July winter school holidays.

In this August the boys returned to class, the temperature rose and we hardly speak of Influenza A. Now worry again dengue ...
