Over-65s make up over half of Covid hospital admissions

Covid-19 is again taking its toll on the over-65s who are being admitted to hospital with the virus in significant numbers, it emerged yesterday.
In the two weeks to last Thursday, 248 in this age group were hospitalised with the virus – more than half the 475 patients with Covid-19 who were unwell enough to be admitted.
There were 12 patients between the ages of 65 and 74 in intensive care during that time, the highest number of the most seriously ill of all age groups.
It comes as there was no let- up in the surge yesterday with 2,855 new cases of Covid-19 reported.
There were 515 people in hospital, a rise of 15 since Sunday, of whom 91 were in intensive care – a drop of two in a day...
