Parents are being warned to be on the alert for symptoms of swine flu as concerns grow about the number of healthy children who are being hit with the virus. The warning comes after the death of a young boy from Leitrim this week from the flu at Our Lady?s Hospital in Crumlin.
The 5-year-old boy was initially treated by a GP before being referred to Sligo Regional Hospital and transferred to Our Lady?s Hospital in Crumlin.
Doctors rushed him to intensive care but his condition deteriorated and he passed away with his family at his bedside.
A paediatrician at Temple Street children?s hospital told today?s Irish Independent that doctors are seeing a rise in children suffering with the flu since January, including healthy children who are no in an at-risk group and are healthy.
