A number of students have been diagnosed with mumps at the UL Student Health Centre in recent days.

A number of students in the University of Limerick (UL) have been diagnosed with mumps in recent days, according to a statement released on the Facebook page of UL Student Life.

Staff at the Student Health Centre in UL, along with the Public Health Department at the Health Service Executive (HSE), released information detailing the symptoms of the infection to students concerned that they may have contracted it. Symptoms include swelling of the salivary glands, fever, headache and muscle pain. ..

The HSE has issued a warning about an outbreak of mumps across Galway, Mayo, and Roscommon.

The warning comes as 45 people have been diagnosed with mumps in the western counties in the past seven weeks.

Galway Bay fm newsroom ? The HSE has issued an advisory regarding a mumps outbreak in the Claregalway area.

Mumps is an acute viral illness that causes fever, headache and painful swollen salivary glands which are just in front of each ear.

There?s been an increase in the number of mumps cases in the western region particularly among those aged between 15 and 29 years old.

The HSE is advising people to be up to date with two doses of the MMR vaccine...
