2023-08-31 02:37

Shafaq News/ The Director General of Sulaymaniyah Health, Sabah Hawrami announced, on Thursday, that ten cases of cholera had been recorded, indicating that the disease is present annually in the province and throughout all of Iraq, calling on residents to take precautions and caution during the next two months.

Hawrami said in a press conference held today, which was attended by the Shafaq News Agency reporter, that tests were conducted for many patients, and the results showed that 10 of them were infected with cholera, adding that nearly 100 patients visit hospitals in Sulaymaniyah daily suffering from diarrhea and vomiting.

He added, "The main reason for the spread of the disease is unhealthy water, and if the water does not reach the citizens in a healthy way, then cholera cannot be controlled, and the water that people buy from (tankers) tankers is the reason for the spread of this disease," stressing the availability of the necessary medicines in hospitals to treat this disease.

And Hawrami indicated that the spread of the disease requires caution and caution by the citizens of Sulaymaniyah and the surrounding areas, as it is easy to spread.

Regarding the causes of the spread of the disease, the Director General of Sulaymaniyah Health confirmed that the main carrier and the real cause is water, as it is the one that transmits this disease to humans, and this requires citizens to take caution and caution during the next two months by using clean and potable water, indicating that if citizens can Using laboratory water or drinking water from sources approved by the Sulaymaniyah Health Authority and the concerned institutions during this period, the matter will be less effective.

He pointed out that unauthorized water sources and vegetables that are washed with dirty and heavy water are the main cause of transmission and spread of the disease, as most of the current cases of diarrhea are caused by cholera, and this requires caution and continuous prevention, especially with regard to water.

Hawrami called on government institutions to help health institutions, since the duty of health is to treat disease, raise awareness of the dangers, and preserve the lives of citizens. We consider this stage as the last stage to confront the disease, and it is our duty to prevent the spread of the causes of disease by the concerned departments by providing healthy water sources for citizens.

Hawrami explained that most of the residential neighborhoods in Sulaymaniyah do not have a healthy drinking water project, and this makes them resort to using wells, and some of those wells are unsanitary and unlicensed.

With the increase in cases of "diarrhoea" in Sulaymaniyah, yesterday, Wednesday, joint delegations from the Kurdistan Ministry of Health and UNICEF arrived in the province to find out the causes of these cases.

And last Sunday (August 27), the Sulaymaniyah Health Directorate in the Kurdistan Region announced a significant increase in the number of people with diarrhea and vomiting.

In a statement, it stated that there is a noticeable increase in the number of people with diarrhea and vomiting, and it is suspected that this is a sign of an outbreak of cholera, and said that all the directorate teams are now busy conducting checks and following up on disease cases.

It also called on citizens to "keep away from using water that they are not confident about from its sources and to use only water provided by the Water Directorate in Sulaymaniyah and bottled water in special containers under the supervision of health teams."

The Directorate decided to ban all kinds of vegetables and milk offered by restaurants and public places, with the exception of "canned milk".
