TEHRAN, June 21 (Xinhua) -- Iran's confirmed coronavirus cases rose to 204,952 on Sunday after an overnight registration of 2,368 new infections, state-run IRNA news agency reported.

Sima Sadat Lari, the spokeswoman for Iran's Ministry of Health and Medical Education, said at the daily briefing that out of the new cases in the past 24 hours, 1,114 have been hospitalized.

The pandemic has so far claimed the lives of 9,623 Iranians, up by 116 in the past 24 hours.

Iran, June 22, 2020—Over 60,000 people have died of the novel coronavirus in 334 cities checkered across all of Iran’s 31 provinces, according to reports tallied by the Iranian opposition People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as of Monday afternoon local time, June 22. The official death count declared by the regime stands at 9,742, nearly a sixth of the actual figure.

More than 16,000 have died in the hospitals of Tehran province. Over 138 hospitals are accepting coronavirus patients in Tehran province with a population of 14 million. In just 34 of the 138 hospitals, 9,050 people have died in the past four months. The death toll in Baghiatollah Hospital, affiliated to the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), has reached 1,250. The number of people dying in their homes and all other facilities other than hospitals needs to be added to these stats.
