Iowa statewide activity summary:
For this reporting period, the State Hygienic Laboratory (SHL) confirmed three cases of seasonal influenza, including two influenza A (subtyping pending) and one influenza B.

The proportion of outpatient visits due to influenza-like illness (ILI) increased from the previous week, but it is well below the regional baseline. There were two cases of influenza-associated hospitalization reported from sentinel hospitals. One school reported 10 percent or greater absenteeism due to illness.

In addition, six cases of adenovirus, three cases of parainfluenza virus type 1, one case of parainfluenza virus type 3 and 4, respectively, and 15 cases of rhinovirus/enterovirus were reported to IDPH.

The proportion of outpatient visits due to ILI continued to increase, but it remains well below the regional baseline.

There were 26 influenza associated hospitalizations reported from sentinel hospitals and more than half of these hospitalizations occurred in people aged 25-64. In addition, five cases of adenovirus, one case of parainfluenza virus type 1, 18 cases of rhinovirus/enterovirus, nine cases of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and one case of human metapneumovirus were reported to IDPH this reporting week.
