In recent weeks the Volcan de Colima has shown a strong activity and during the last two days, including today in the morning, there were three strong landslides of volcanic material down the slopes of the "colossus of granite, visible from the city of Colima .
However, and despite this intense activity, the state systems of Civil Protection of Colima and Jalisco have clarified that landslides pose no danger or risk to the population.
The landslides of volcanic material have been observed to the area of the population of Yerbabuena, in the State of Colima, and to Zapotitlan Vadillo, in the State of Jalisco.
Civil Protection said that volcanic activity is normal, once the dome that covers the cone of Colima Volcano continues to grow and has begun to shed material down its slopes.
Civil Protection authorities stressed seen collapses or partial collapse of material from the volcano's summit, mainly to the west (toward Zapotitlan de Vadillo.
"Given the colorful feature of it, causing clouds of dust by detachments from the volcanic dome material, insisting that by the time the activity of the Colossus does not represent a risk to the population living in communities located around the volcano" he said.
It was reported that the volcanic dome observed no changes in height and cover the surface of the crater, which typically remain in the characteristics of the observed on overflights made since March 2010.
The various metrics to continuously take place through the Volcano Observatory of the University of Colima, located on the Nevado de Colima and the analysis of such information by the scientific staff of Jalisco and Colima allow considerations.
The first is that the volcano has not changed in its pattern of activity over the last nine months shows that landslides will continue to accumulated material in the areas south (toward Colima) and north (toward the Nevado de Colima) and detachment of blocks in the western sector.
The ongoing monitoring of other parameters of volcanic activity (seismicity, temperature, deformation and chemical), remain at low levels and show no changes in their behavior.
It also shows an apparent stability of volcanic activity, which is that within the short term it is expected the presence of large-scale explosive events.
The light is kept on standby (yellow), continuing current exclusion zone comprising an average of 7.5 km radius around the crater.
