Influenza Pandemic Preparation and Response - A Citizen's Guide
The Flu Manual was created to serve as a comprehensive educational guide for Avian Influenza (also known as Bird Flu and H5N1) with the target audience being the individual, their family and their community.
The majority of information that exists within the public sector on Avian Influenza is designed for technical and medical experts and is very difficult to digest if one does not have prior knowledge about influenza. The Flu Manual serves to educate individuals about all stages of an influenza pandemic: from background and planning, to treatment of symptoms and response, to recovery.
InSTEDD assembled the Flu Manual through collaboration with many experts in the field of influenza and crisis management.
InSTEDD serves to place the best information and technology into the hands of the people who need to use those services. We are an open-source provider of technology resources and our mission is to help others through open channels of communication and collaboration. The Flu Manual was designed with these requirements in mind. The more that people are able to readily share information about influenza and the way to handle deadly infectious disease, the more prepared we will be as a society to hopefully reduce unneeded suffering and death.
