54 of 189 freshmen who entered the police academy contracted influenza, Tochigi prefectural police announced on April 9. 18 more had flu-like symptoms. The academy will be closed for 6 days from 10th to 17th. The freshmen have just had the entrance ceremony.

According to the academy, the patients are men and women of 18 to 32 years old who lived together in the dormitory from April 1st.
9 male students had high fever on 6th. They were tested in a hospital and diagnosed as influenza. After that, patients came out in numbers. Most of patients are cared in their homes.

The types of influenza are A and B. Flow of infection is unknown. The patients stayed in three buildings of the dormitory but had meals together in the canteen and orientation classes together.
