Another H5N1 Fatality in South Jakarta Indonesia

Recombinomics Commentary 22:30
March 4, 2009

the case of last bird flu struck Isnaelia Rahmadiyanti,3,warga the Complex Peaceful Way of PDK RT 11/02, Petukangan South, Pesanggrahan,2 last February. "Positif his bird flu was just known on February 13, after being treated in RS Persahabatan

The above translation describes another recently confirmed H5N1 case from South Jakarta in a densely populated neighborhood (see updated map) about 5 miles from the recently confirmed case in Tangerang. Neither of these cases was included in the four recently confirmed cases from late January / early February or the two most recent suspect cases, described in local and wire service reports, although the above case died February 2 and was confirmed February 13.

This case again raises concerns that a large number of fatal H5N1 cases, in addition to milder cases who recover, are not being reported in a timely manner if at all. The recent report from the MOH described cases that had died over a month ago, and WHO has yet to issue a situation update of these four earlier cases. The above case and the confirmed Tangerang case, along with the two suspect case may be reported at a future date, but two have already been confirmed and all were fatal.

The lack of transparency and the delayed reports of lab confirmed cases in Indonesia in general and in the Jakarta area in particular continue to cause concern.

If Isnadia Rahmadiyati died on February 2, and was locally confirmed on February 13, why is this news story only now being released? The currrent news release of this death now, more than a month later, is suspect.

Perhaps Isnadia Rahmadiyati, who died on February 2, was (and will be) the fourth human death included in the count on February 11 by the Indonesian Bird Flu Commission. The death is within the correct time frame.

If Isnadia becomes a confirmed WHO case and only four cases are identified within the time frame of January 22 (last WHO update) to February 11 (initial date of announcement of 4 additional bird flu deaths), then it would seem that the Indonesian government is carefully controlling and delaying the news reports on confirmed human cases.

In recent years, thanks to Bekasi's proximity to Jakarta, many satellite cities have developed along the Tambun toll highway. These include Harapan Indah, Kemang Pratama, Taman Galaxy, and Grand Wisata.
I found this map of the general Taman Galaxy area:

I'm wondering if she is not involved in the 2/14 outbreak in Sukamulya Village. I can't find Sukamulya Village on this map. The cross (in the center of the map) is Taman Galaxy.

The probelm with classifying the Bekasi case as the "missing" case is the fact the four cases were acknowledged on Feb 11 and this casen died Feb 24, so confirmed prior to Feb 11 is unlikley.
