ProMED made a mistake today, they posted the news from Jakarta Post (see previous post) on 2 suspects in Tangerang who are tested negative:

These 2 suspected cases, who have tested negative for avian H5N1
influenza virus infection, are the cases described in ProMED-mail

NOT.

In an earlier post 2 suspects in Tangerang were announced; 15 yo MS and the girl KN, who died.

Later the 2 yo boy MH was admitted too in the same hospital in Tangerang.

In today's report from Jakarta Post 2 suspects are cleared: MS 15 yo and the 2 yo boy MH .

Not the same 2. According to local press the girl KN was tested positive for H5N1.

Two patients recovering

After two days treatment at isolation unit RSUP Soeradji Tirtonagoro hospital, Roslik Wahyu Ardiata, 5 and Wisnu Candra,1 are recovering, according to Main director of RSUP Soeradji Tirtonagoro hospital Klaten Arif Faizal.

The Tangerang regency Health Agency declared Thursday that two patients being treated at Tangerang General Hospital, earlier were suspected of suffering from bird flu, were found not to have the avian influenza virus.


"Laboratory tests of blood samples and X-rays of their lungs showed the residents of Sepatan district did not have bird flu," Yuli Sunar Dewanti, head of the agency's communicable diseases prevention and environmental sanitation department, said Thursday.

The two patients, who showed symptoms of bird flu when brought to hospital last week, underwent treatment in an isolated room until they were declared free of the virus Thursday morning.

They were suspected of having bird flu after dozens of fowl in their village died suddenly early this month.

Yuli said the symptoms of high fever and respiratory problems shown by the patients indicated they had suffered from acute respiratory infection (ISPA).

"ISPA has similar symptoms to bird flu," she said, adding the patients had testified they had no contact with fowl before falling sick.

Both have returned home since Thursday.

Jakarta Post brings the report from Kompas.com on the latest suspect bird flu death. In the last sentence the Jakarta Post reporter seems to have his/her own interpretation of the Kompas article.

No death was reported in Bekasi this month. Although one cannot exclude unreported deaths, it seems the reporter mistook a (suspected) case for a death.

All suspects from Bekasi earlier this month were reported to have tested negative for avian flu. No reports of a death or a positive human case.

Another thing: not the same village, not even in the same regency.

[Although eight year old Andri Ruhiyat is variously reported to be from Kampung Sukamantri (#167) or Kampung Kandang (post #171), Kampung Sukamantri is the more likely home of Andri Ruhiyat. The earlier suspected human case is reported from Suka Mulya Village, Kecamatan Sukatani ( post #169). The map below shows the general locations of Sukamantri and Suka Mulya. They are about 6-8 miles mile northeast of Bekasi and only about 1-2 miles apart.
