Passenger Suspected of Bird Flu, Detected at Soetta Airport

A prospective passenger who will be traveling abroad at Soekarno-Hatta Airport is suspected of being exposed to the H5N1 variant of the bird flu virus.

TANGERANG – A potential passenger suspected of being infected with the H5N1 variant of the bird flu virus was detected at Soekarno Hatta Airport (Soetta), Tangerang .

This finding stems from the results of an examination conducted by airport health officials. At that time the prospective passenger experienced symptoms by having a fairly high body heat.
"Some time ago at Soetta Airport, a passenger was found with symptoms of the H5N1 virus," said the Head of the Soetta Port Health Office (KKP), Naning, Nugrahini to Antara on Friday (17/3).

"He is known to want to travel abroad," explained Naning.
With the discovery of this case, the Soetta KKP immediately tightened screening. Naning ordered his staff to speed up surveillance at Soetta Airport.

“The goal is to see the signs and symptoms of the H5N1 virus in passengers. In fact, officers have also conducted briefings and training in detecting symptoms and signs of a new variant of bird flu," said Naning.
Previously the spread of this variant virus had also been found in the United States, Britain, China, Japan and Cambodia. So that the arrival of passengers from these countries will be tightened supervision.
Naning has also prepared 195 referral hospitals, such as Sitanala Hospital and Sulianto Saroso Hospital. So that passengers who have an indication of the virus will immediately get treatment.


Advanced Examination

In the case of the first discovery of a potential passenger suspected of being exposed to the H5N1 bird flu virus. The Soetta KKP has carried out further investigations.
With alacrity, the prospective passenger was immediately taken to the clinic for anamnesis examination. From the results of the examination it turned out that the results were negative for the H5N1 bird flu virus.
"After taking a more intensive anamnesis and examination, the result was that the passenger was negative for bird flu," said Naning.

For information, the H5N1 bird flu virus is a type of virus that causes bird flu in poultry and can spread to humans. This virus was first discovered in Hong Kong in 1997
